Overview of Blue Hills’ Exploratory Program
All ninth graders enrolled in Blue Hills Regional Technical School participate in a vocational exploratory program designed to introduce them to the tools, working conditions, academic expectations and career opportunities of a variety of vocational programs. Students are introduced to each of Blue Hills’ seventeen vocational programs for one forty-two minute period each. From these programs, students select eight programs and two alternates they would like to explore for one week each. One additional non-traditional vocational program will be chosen for them. Students are evaluated and scored (0-105 points) by vocational instructors at the end of each Exploratory week. At the end of the full nine-week exploratory, each student selects his/her top three programs. Placement into vocational programs is based on the Exploratory grades earned by students over the nine-week program.
